I never even knew about this one! I grabbed a book about this the other day and it really has peaked my interest. Anyone with more info or a few extra books that I could pick up and learn a little more?
In the Intro to The Norse Myths, Kevin Crossley-Holland gives a nice and simple account of the Nine worlds
My students "sketched" their version of what the nine worlds looked like on Yggdrasil... they loved this activity and helped them remember the names of the worlds and what it was home to. Upper level Asgard (Aesir, the land of the gods), Alfheim (Elves), Vanaheim (Vanir), Middle Level Midgard (Men), Jotunheim (Giants), Svartalfheim (Dark-elves), Nidavellir (Dwarves), Lower Level Muspelheim (fire, a bright, flaming, hot world in the southern region), and Niflheim (the dead, the lowest level)
Very nice, I am going to have to keep that in mind while I hunt for some more reading material. I am thinking of heading out to Barnes & Noble this weekend along with two 2nd hand book stores in the area to see if I can find anything good.
I've not read much Norse mythology, so I'm looking forward to tips and hints within this area of the forum. Maybe I remember some of the tales in different scenarios from straight-out Norse mythology.
I have a list here from deviantart, some of the nicest illustrations of the nine worlds: http://yuenxdioses.wordpress.com/2011/12/09/yggdrasil-the-world-tree-of-the-norsemen/ hope you all like it!
