Bananas carrying necrotizing fasciitis

Have you heard the urban legend about bananas from certain countries that are carrying necrotizing fasciitis? The rumour is that a guy had a habit of eating bananas for his lunch and came down with a horrible case of necrotizing fasciitis and died from it. Of course it's an urban legend. How do these things get started?

I think these stories get started by people who just have too much time on their hands.

I had not heard that one before. Is it new or has that one been around for awhile and I just missed it until now?
